Fewer Pinking Issues with Packed Sliced Iceberg & Romaine Lettuce
PerfoTec has developed a new recyclable film tailored for sliced iceberg and romaine lettuce packaging. The results are promising. This film is 50% thinner than commonly used films, offering massive cost savings along with a significant reduction in plastic usage.
Our new film has specific water vapor and O2/CO2 permeability features that extend the freshness of sliced iceberg and romaine lettuce for extra days, with less risk of pinking. The new film properties also eliminate the need for costly CO2 gas flushing.
This innovation combines PerfoTec's patented Respiration System, our gas flush system, and the newly developed recyclable film. It's a gamechanger for any packer struggling to keep their sliced iceberg lettuce fresh with fewer quality risks.
PerfoTec can advise packers on how seasonal changes, local vs imported production, or product freshness can affect results. Our tests have shown that, under stable temperature conditions, the new film keeps sliced iceberg lettuce fresh with no pinking up to day 9-10. Several pilots are ongoing.
This is a marked improvement compared to standard packaging film where pinking usually occurs around day 6 or 7, whereby the used standard film is also twice as thick as our new film. Due to the stable results, we are close to a commercial launch. We have enough film in stock for early adopters who wish to test for themselves and will be given priority when the product is commercially introduced.
